ChatGPT Data lands, Slack builds dashboards: Sept. 11

ChatGPT can now investigate company data, Slack can turn a conversation into an interactive report, and Gemini has moved onto Windows desktops. Give these changes 40 minutes today. You’ll limit a data test to approved records, build one disposable Slack dashboard, and keep a new desktop assistant away from sensitive customer screens.

ChatGPT Data connects company records to decisions

OpenAI released the Data agent in ChatGPT Work on September 10. According to the official announcement, it can examine approved sources, explain what changed, create an interactive dashboard, and carry out actions that you approve through connected tools. Supported sources include Google Drive, SharePoint, Snowflake, Databricks, and Google BigQuery.

This shortens the route from a business question to a usable report. It also puts more pressure on your definitions. If “qualified lead” means one thing in the sales database and another in the weekly spreadsheet, a polished chart can hide the disagreement. The software is only reading the rules and records you give it.

Ask your ChatGPT Work administrator to open Workspace settings > Plugins, make Data available, and enable one data-source plugin. Start with a read-only source that contains no payment details or private customer notes. Then type @Data and ask for one number you can check by hand, such as leads received yesterday by source. Compare every row with the original system before sharing the result.

Use the controls in the AI content approval workflow to record the source, question, result, and reviewer. If your current report is assembled manually, the weekly reporting runbook gives you a fixed baseline for the comparison.

Slack builds interactive reports from a conversation

Salesforce introduced Slackforce Surfaces on September 10 for Slack workspaces with Slackbot enabled. The launch page says Slackbot can turn a prompt and permitted workspace information into a dashboard, report, presentation, calculator, or small interactive page. Availability covers Enterprise+, Business+, Pro, Legacy, and Free Teams. Automatic refresh from live data begins rolling out in October.

That timing matters. A Surface built today can help a team examine the same information in one channel, but you should not treat it as a permanently current scorecard yet. Existing permissions determine what the builder can see. They do not decide whether a wider channel should see the finished output.

Open a direct message with Slackbot and ask for a test report using made-up figures. Include the report date, source name, owner, and a visible line that says TEST DATA. Check every filter and total. Only then repeat the build with a narrow real source, review who belongs to the destination channel, and pin the Surface after approval.

This is useful for a team already making decisions in Slack. If reporting belongs in another system, leave it there and use the automation tool comparison to move only the approved summary into the channel.

Gemini adds a Windows desktop shortcut

Google released the Gemini app globally for Windows 10 and 11 on September 10. Google’s product announcement says Alt + Space opens Gemini above the work already on screen. The app can help draft text, create images and video, and retrieve information from connected Google applications.

The business gain is fewer copy-and-paste trips for small drafting jobs. The risk is casual exposure. A shortcut available over any active window makes it easy to include customer details, payroll figures, or an unfinished contract without pausing to consider where that information is going.

Install the app on one non-shared Windows computer. Open a blank document containing invented company names and press Alt + Space. Ask Gemini to summarize only the selected sample. Next, repeat the test beside a real application without sending any content, so the user learns when the assistant appears and what it can access. Write an internal rule that customer names and contact details must be replaced with invented values before they enter a prompt.

Use it for drafts and summaries that a person checks. Keep repeatable customer follow-ups inside a controlled automation, not a desktop shortcut. The prompt systems guide shows how to define inputs and approval criteria before anyone uses the new entry point.
