Gemini 3.8 Live and Meta One: Sept. 16 dispatch

Google has given voice assistants a more capable engine, Cloudflare has split search access from AI training, and Meta has changed both WhatsApp setup and its monthly software bill. Gemini 3.8 Live upgrades voice agents

Google released Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking on September 15. The standard model is designed for high-volume conversations. Extended Thinking is aimed at harder jobs with several reasoning steps. Both can keep talking while they use connected tools, accept visual input, and switch among 97 languages. Google says both are rolling out through its Gemini API and AI Studio. An API is the connection that lets one piece of software use another service.

This matters if an automated voice assistant answers calls or books appointments. Keeping the conversation moving while it checks a calendar should create less dead air. Do not replace your current model on that promise alone. A benchmark cannot reveal whether it invents an appointment slot.

Cloudflare separates search from AI training

Cloudflare changed its crawler controls on September 15 so a site can remain visible in search while refusing AI training. A crawler is software that reads website pages for a search engine or AI company. The new Disallow AI Training option publishes the refusal in the site’s robots.txt file, which is a set of instructions for crawlers, while allowing approved mixed-use crawlers to keep indexing pages for search. Cloudflare explains the new controls and migration rules.

The dangerous setting is now Block. Cloudflare says it stops Googlebot, Bingbot, and Applebot, removing access needed for ordinary search discovery. Check it manually if search brings you leads.

Open Cloudflare, select your website, then open Security > Bots > AI Crawl Control. Keep Search on Allow. Under Training, choose Disallow AI Training if you want the restriction without sacrificing search. Then inspect yourdomain.com/robots.txt. Pair this audit with the AI recommendations visibility setup, because blocking every reader works against being cited.

WhatsApp Business gains agent-led setup

Meta released WhatsApp Business Tools MCP on September 15. MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is a standard connection that lets an AI assistant operate approved tools. Meta says the new connection can create a WhatsApp Business account, register a phone number, build message templates, send tests, and configure webhooks. A webhook is a web address that catches updates another system sends.

This removes tab-switching, but it does not make the assistant safe unattended. Meta requires a signed-in administrator for changes and limits the release to development and testing. Availability is gradual.

If the tool appears in your AI assistant, add WhatsApp Business Tools MCP and sign in through Facebook Login for Business. Ask it to check Terms of Service, payment method, business verification, and phone status. Build one template, send it only to your number, and confirm the webhook reaches your test system. Meta One puts business features into paid bundles

Meta introduced its Meta One subscriptions on September 15, with US business and creator plans starting at $14.99 a month. Essential adds more Meta Business Agent capacity, verification, and impersonation protection. Advanced starts at $49.99 and adds story scheduling up to 30 days ahead, links in organic posts and reels, exportable reports, team access, and more WhatsApp capacity. Expert starts at $149, while Max starts at $499. Meta lists the plans and notes that price and availability vary by account and region.

Do not treat the bundle as a required visibility fee. Open Accounts Center > Meta One and record your price. List the features it would replace, such as scheduling or reporting. Essential is the relevant test for a small business using WhatsApp. Review Advanced only when links, exports, or team access replace an existing bill.
